Biography:

I received my BS in Agriculture with a minor in Horticulture from the University of Kentucky in 1973. I spent 15 years working in the ornamental nursery business managing greenhouses, nursery production of field grown shade trees, container grown shrubs, perennials and cut flowers. I received my MS in Forestry at Clemson University in 1991 and my PhD in Natural Resource Management from Clemson University in 1994.

I am currently the Regional Regeneration Specialist with the USDA Forest Service, Southern Region Cooperative Forestry.  I provide technical assistance to the 13 Southern state operated nursery and tree improvement programs.  I helped the Afghan Government initiate the Afghan Conservation Corps (ACC) by providing technical assistance and training.  The ACC was modeled after the successful Civilian Conservation Corps that helped the U.S recover from the ecological disaster known as the Dust Bowl.  To date the ACC has planted ACC has established 750 orchards, rehabilitated 21 nurseries, produced 3.5 million seedlings, planted 1.5 million seedlings, distributed 500,000 fruit trees and direct seeded 200 acres of pistachio.
