Benefits of knowing seedlings quality


Standards for assessing forest seedling quality are shifting from traditional morphological characteristics to internal, physiological condition. Several tests for evaluating seedling physiological condition are described, and potential applications are suggested. Example test results from 1982 through 1984 are presented for coastal Douglas-fir seedlings; their implications for the nursery manager are discussed.
