Some Effects of Cold Storage on Seedling Physiology


When tree seedlings are lifted from the nursery in winter and placed into cold storage they are no longer exposed to the natural environmental factors which provide energy for growth and information for phenological development. This affects many important physiological variables which influence seedling quality. This paper summarizes several years of storage physiology research on Douglas-fir (Pseudotsuga menziesii (Mirb.) Franco) conducted by Weyerhaeuser Company.
