Biodiversity and Ecosystem Management: The Role of Forest and Conservation Nurseries

Nurseries offer unique opportunities for ecosystem management because they offer the opportunity to not only preserve, but actually increase biodiversity levels. In addition to the traditional commercial timber species, nurseries are propagating a wide variety of diverse plants - from sedges and grasses to woody shrubs and riparian trees. Natural resource specialists are using nursery stock for innovative planting projects: gene conservation, resource protection, ecosystem restoration, wildlife habitat enhancement, rehabilitation of recreation sites, and forest health.
