Controlling Root Pathogens with Mycorrhizal Fungi and Beneficial Bacteria

Mycorrhizae help plants to acquire water and nutrients from soil, tolerate drought, and ward off root pathogens. These effects are due largely to mycorrhiza- induced physiological changes, including altered root exudation which changes the microbial composition in the mycorrhizosphere soil. Mycorrhizae and their associated rhizobacteria can antagonize root pathogens. Our goal is to find and manage these microbes to effect biological control of the widespread Fusarium root rot of conifers.
