Geographic Races of Shortleaf Pine Not Reproductively Isolated in a Mixed Plantation


In a shortleaf pine (Pinus echinata Mill.) plantation in Mississippi, western sources of the species shed pollen earlier than eastern sources. Introgression with loblolly (P. taeda L.) in the western sources is proposed as an explanation. Overlap in time of shedding indicated that no source was reproductively isolated from any other.
