Intensive Management of Stump-Sprout Reproduction In Coppice-Regenerated Coast Redwoods


The habit of coast redwood (Sequoia sempervirens (Lamb. ex D. Don) Endl.) to regenerate naturally from epicormic basal sprouts (stump sprouts) after severe damage or removal of the main stem has contributed greatly to the species’ renewal and has been responsible for the regeneration of many of the region’s second-growth redwood stands.
