Biography

I received my BS in Forestry from Purdue University in 1968 and my PhD in Forest Genetics from North Carolina State University in 1983. I worked as Tree Improvement Specialist for the Indiana Division of Forestry and began my career with the USDA Forest Service as a Geneticist with the Southern Forest and Range Experiment Station in Starkville, MS in 1978. I transferred to Northeastern Area, State and Private Forestry in 1982 and served as Area Geneticist and Forest Resource Management Field Representative in the St. Paul, MN Field Office.

I am currently the Area Regeneration Specialist for the Northeastern Area and am attached to the Hardwood Tree Improvement and Regeneration Center at Purdue University. I provide technical assistance to State-owned nursery and genetic resource programs in the 20-state area served by the Northeastern Area. In addition to working in the Northeast, I have provided technical assistance to nursery and reforestation programs in the Pacific Islands and the Caribbean, and have participated in US AID reforestation projects in the Russian Far East, Tanzania, the Republic of Congo, and the Democratic Republic of Congo.
